Android Studio is the official integrated development environment (IDE) for Google’s Android operating system which built on Jet Brains’ IntelliJ IDEA software designed specifically for Android development. It is available for download on Windows, Mac OS and Linux based operating systems.
Android Studio was announced on May 16, 2013, at the Google I/O conference. It was in early access preview stage starting from version 0.1 in May 2013, then entered beta stage starting from version 0.8 which was released on June 2014. The first stable build was released on December 2014, starting from version 1.0.

Download Android Studio
Google provides Android Studio for the Windows and Mac OS X platforms. Install and configure Android Studio in Windows OS
Before starting the installation process, you should have to install Java.

- The installer responded by presenting the Android Studio Setup dialog box shown in Figure below
- Clicking Next took us to the following panel, Click on Next button.
- After clicking Next, We move to the Configuration Settings panel, where we ask to choose where to install Android Studio.
- Choose the default installation location and clicked Next, and was greeted with the Choose Start Menu Folder panel.
- We kept the default setting and clicked Install.
- After clicking Next, the installer presented the Completing Android Studio Setup panel. To complete the installation press Finish button.
- then press Ok in Complete installation.
- After finish this process, Android Studio began the process of downloading SDK components.
It can take several minutes for this part of the setup to finish.
- Then you can see Welcome Screen.
- Click on Next button in Welcome screen they ask for install type, we choose the Standard Type and Click on Next.
- After this select IntelliJ UI theme, and Click on Next Button.
- After that, you can see the Verify Settings screen click on the Finish button.
- Then it starts downloading Components, it takes some time.
- After completion of the downloading process Click on the Finish button.
- Finally, clicked Finish to complete the wizard. The Welcome to Android Studio dialog box appeared.
Set Android Path
Now, you need to set the path in the environment variable for Android SDK path
1: Right-click on My Computer and select property

Install and configure Android Studio in Mac OS

Before starting the installation and configuring process, please Download and configure the latest version of JDK for Mac OS.
Let’s install Android Studio on your Mac:
- Download and Launch the Android Studio “.dmg” file.
- Before installing Android Studio, you must agree to the following terms and condition.
- Drag Android Studio into the Applications folder and launch Android Studio.
- Open Android Studio then Click On Open button.
- Then select the second option and click ok.
- After click on ok, you can see the Welcome screen. Then click on Next.
- Choose the install type as a custom and then press Next.
- Select the default UI theme and then press on Next.
- check on the Android Virtual Device and press next.
- Set the By default emulator setting and Press Next.
- Press on Finish.
- Set User Name and Password and press ok
- Then press on Finish
Once you are done with that you should be ready to actually start building apps on your Mac. This is the first step you take as an Android Developer.
Starting a new project
From our setup so far, you should still have Android Studio running with the Welcome to Android Studio dialog box. From here, click Start a new Android Studio project. Android Studio will respond with the Create New Project dialog box, where you can create a new project by clicking Start a new Android Studio project.
If you do have a project opened, you start creating a new project by selecting File > New > New Project from the main menu.
Step 1: Choose your project
In the Choose your project screen that appears, you can select the type of project you want to create from categories of device form factors. For example, in below figure shows a project with a basic Android Activity for phone and tablet selected. Here I choose an empty activity.
After you make a selection, click Next.
Step 2: Configure your project
The next step is to configure some settings and create your new project, as described below and shown in the below figure.
- 1. Give an appropriate name to your application.
- 2. Specify the Package name.you can also use By default package name and this package name, as a result, it becomes your application ID, which you can change later.
- 3. Specify the Save location where you want to locally store your project.
- 4. Select appropriate Language, here I choose “Java” if you want to make it with Kotlin then you can select Language as a “Kotlin“.
- 5. Select the Minimum API level you want your app to support. When you select a lower API level, your app can rely on fewer modern Android APIs. However, a larger percentage of Android devices are able to run your app. The opposite is true when selecting a higher API level. If you want to see more data to help you decide, click Help me choose.
- After you make a selection, click Finish.

Install Xcode
To develop Flutter apps for iOS, you need a Mac with Xcode installed.
- Install the latest stable version of Xcode(using web download or the Mac App Store).

With Xcode, you’ll be able to run Flutter apps onan iOS device or on the simulator.
Set up the iOS simulator
To prepare to run and test your Flutter app on the iOS simulator,follow these steps:
- On your Mac, find the Simulator via Spotlight orby using the following command:
- Make sure your simulator is using a 64-bit device(iPhone 5s or later) by checking the settings inthe simulator’s Hardware > Device menu.
